The Highlander Cycling Tour consists of a choice of five rides on a Saturday in mid September. The rides are located in the scenic and hilly Finger Lakes region of upstate New York around the time of wine festivals and beginning of fall foliage. In addition there is an optional 5 mile mountain time trial on Friday.
Riders will see views of Naples and Italy Valleys, Canandaigua and Honeoye Lakes, and the surrounding wine country. SAG stops are frequent and well stocked. Road rides are well marked on paved roads with light vehicle traffic. There are five rides plus time trial.
HIGHLANDER: This is the premier 100 mile century featuring over 11,000 feet of climbing in 20 separate climbs, 8 of which climb 1-2 miles with grades ranging between 9-23%.
MIDLANDER: The metric (62 miles) century follows the above route and featuring over 6000 feet of climbing.
LOWLANDER: A flatter 100-mile century (6,000 feet eliminating the 6 steepest climbs), runs past three lakeshores and through numerous villages, hamlets and vineyards.
WANDERER: A 30 mile ride that accommodates riders of all levels on a fun, slightly challenging course, with only two moderate climbs. Riders will enjoy the same amenities and many of the same scenic views as the longer riders. See detailed information about the Wanderer Tour.
MOUNTAINEER: A 40K off-road challenge featuring 7,000 feet of climbing, including climbs up all of the areas 2,000 foot peaks. Ride is well-marked on (mostly) single track trails, traversing two ski areas.
PROLOGUE TIME TRIAL: The 5 mile mountain time trial course features a gut wrenching 800 foot climb in the last mile.
