Runner's Cookbook

Posted about 1 year ago by ericm

So, I'm still new at this endurance running thing. I've got some pretty good books on running, and they all provide great information on nutrition. However, they don't have receipes!

I'd love some suggestions from the group. And to further complicate things, I limit my meat intake as much as possible. Fish is cool, but I don't eat other meat.

Thanks,
Eric

The usual spiel, eat as natural foods as you can. Avoid processed foods*, refined sugars, sodas, etc. Eat lots of vegetables, pasta, and lean protein sources.

* Disclaimer: If you're in the middle of an ultra or marathon, by all means, eat all the junk food you can.

Are there any specific books that you can recommend? I mean, there are plenty of books with general nutrition advice, but I'm looking for a good cookbook. :) I think I'll get the NYC Marathon Cookbook. Any other suggestions?

Hey, Eric.

I don't actually know of any cookbooks, but yesterday at REI they had a bunch of endurance running stuff. If I'd seem this question before my trip, I'd have paid more attention. You might try the rei.com web site.
