You can't predict what's going to happen in your life. Things that will screw up the best laid plans.

I'd entered into the Poland Springs Marathon Warm Up event on Oct. 29. Pretty straight forward. To make it more interesting, I'd joined a challenge on Nike+. It was an important run for me, as it was the 9th NYRR race which was to qualify me for the NY Marathon next year.

Then along came Dunkin'. It's not what you're thinking. I didn't eat Dunkin'. I got sucked into the Dunkin' pitch at work. It started on the Tuesday before the race. Tuesday night - 2am finish. Wednesday night - 3am. Thursday night - 3.30am. Then on Friday, the team gets pulled into a room.

"We're going up to Massachusetts and locking ourselves in room until Wednesday" (which was the day of the pitch)

Times like this, I hate that I care about doing the best job possible and pulling together as a team. Yes, I missed the race. But all is not lost. I am running a race on Nov. 19th which will be my 9th race. And if people honor the promise made to me for missing the race last weekend (that they will run the make-up race with me), then I will still get my entry for next year and my training will have purpose.

It's been a crazy time. From Monday 8am to Wedesday 10.30pm, I had two hours sleep. It was an interesting experiment actually - i realize now just how important sleep is.

Anyway, this was the first run I'd done since I'd caught up on sleep. It was pretty sucky, but it felt good after the first mile or so.
