With the attitude of an explorer, I strode out the door and into the world. The new world of Brooklyn. First task, find out how to get onto the Manhattan bridge.

Also, since the neighborhood felt a bit sketchy to my ' I'm used to 4 years in the upper east side' self, I took my ipod to measure the distance, but no headphones. No music, so that I could hear the muggers dainty footfalls as they crept up behind me. :)

Manhattan Bridge is split either side. Walkers and runners are designated the left of the bridge (coming from Brooklyn's left), while cyclists take the other side. Either way, at 6 in the morning, there's un-nervingly very few runners on the bridge. Onward I plowed until I came off the bridge in the guts of Chinatown.

I then picked my way around the streets looking for City Hall - the start of Brooklyn Bridge. Fortunately, you can't really miss Brooklyn Bridge and I found it pretty quickly.

Holy crap, what a beautiful place to run. It's obviously more popular than Manhattan Bridge (I guess not many people do the bridge to bridge) and there were a lot of us enjoying the sun rising low on the horizon. I've also never really run on wooden boardwalk before, and it's interesting to be able to see the traffic below you.

Beautiful, beautiful run. Didn't know the distance (turned out to be 4 miles all up, which was about 2 shorter than I was supposed to do), but the spirit of exploration was enough to make me feel good about the whole deal.
