I fell off the face of the earth. It was a pretty long fall actually. No running, then I got sick, then I worked like a maniac finishing my last two big projects for POKE before leaving. I have now been unemployed for 1 week, and writing as much as I can while sitting around waiting for a freelance gig to keep the rent paid.

I just felt that it’s time to run again. That hit me last week. Even though my foot is still a bit wrong. It hit me this morning just how out of shape I’ve gotten. I used to be able to get off the Brooklyn Bridge and run full tilt all the way to Tillary Street to finish the run. Tried it today and it nearly killed me. The leg fatigue was unbelievable. It’s disappointing that I’ve let myself go like this, after coming so far.

I need to run to relax and not think about money and how I’m going to get it. I want to enjoy this time to write, so it’s a matter of shifting my brain into another gear. The things that I thought were important to me – the career, the possessions, the technical things that go ping – they are not important to me this year. This year is about creativity, and giving yourself up to that. I’ve started a blog on this exploration http://notyellowchicken.com, and am going to try use running as a touchstone in my life to keep me sane. I just want to enjoy it, since I’m not training for anything.

Whee!
