Day 6 through the Gaviota Mountains on the way to Santa Barbara and on to Ventura, the morning begins with the first climb at 0.8 miles and witha brief downhill, most of the way to Rest Stop 1 at mile 15.1 is climbing, not steep, but continual.
Unfortunately, after the downhill, we get back on 101, off and on again at exits and on ramps, and with the exception of a narrow bridge at mile 24.5 and Rest Stop 2, where CHP will have closed the right lane for us, it's not as bad as Day 3's stint on 101. Lunch is at Tuckers Grove Park as we head around the east side of Goleta and Santa Barbara before getting on the bike path.
Chris & I stopped at the Water Stop before Paradise pit so I could have my wheel and brake checked again, looks like it will need to go back into Bike Tech overnight to get the wheels trued up again and loose spokes tightened. Bu tok to continue riding.
On to Paradise Pit, the unofficial rest stop put on by the local folks, with ice cream, fresh strawberries and fresh baked goods. I had German Chocolate Cake ice cream, and even with bits of coconut, it was quite good, chocoholic that I am, or course.
After this, rest stop 4 is at mile 74.8 and camp is not far at San Buenaventura State Beach in Ventura. We stopped anyway, and there a number of us got together for a photo against the Navy ship backdrop with the "sailors".
After a shower, we head over to In-N-Out for burgers, then to the Marriott for margaritas! :-)
