Went out with Marky today to try this ride, which promised brutal climbs for basically the entire first half. It delivered.
"Terrace Mountain Drive?" Marky asked, dryly in his British accent, "That doesn't sound flat, now, does it?"
Neither did The High Rd., Ridgecrest Drive... there was definitely a pattern.
There were also some discrepancies between how Routeslip claimed roads connected, how Google Maps claimed roads connected, and how reality insisted they connected. Hilarity ensued. We actually missed Terrace Mountain entirely (the steepest climb of the route -- I can't say I'm too upset) because it didn't actually join up with Redbud Trail as "Terrace Mountain Drive." When we hit Rebud & Westlake and realized our error, we turned around to try to get up to the High Road loop, and it took a few experiments to find roads that connected.
The High Rd. had a pretty punishing 3-part climb. Certainly the hardest of the route (well, the route without Terrace Mountain, which I still haven't laid eyes on.)
While navigating us back to the BSS parking lot, I tried to go my usual way over the pedestrian bridge at Lamar and the river, but the overpass road was closed, so we ended up biking directly on Lamar, and I somehow thought we could turn left to get to Cesar Chavez, and we ended up standing, stopped, in the narrow middle of Lamar Blvd, with people honking and shouting at us. With all of that, I'm guessing I'll let Marky plan the route next time.

Nice ride! Did it hurt?
Yes. In fact, I went hiking with a friend right afterwards (I'd promised, she had new hiking shoes and was excited, and I figured it'd be a light hike -- and it was) and after dropping her off I got out of my car and my hamstrings were really not happy, super crampy, kinda painful. Some Tiger Balm patches and they seem happier now. Gotta whip these guys into shape! So far I haven't really strained anything... all those muscles are just complaining because they're still sleepy from their many-month hiatus from cycling.
