Trying to get a sense of where I'm at, recovery-wise. Straight out and back.

Found that achilles and calf tightness let up a little on the way back. Heavy emphasis on keeping HR below 145 (result: 136 avr) on the way out and 155 on the way back (result: 151 avr). Concentration on breathing cadence helped my strides per minute level out.

Neighborhood Run- Distance 7.50 miles
- Time 01:10:47

First run since IM Canada (just a week and a half). Interestingly, seemed to have already lost what it feels like to run. Body seemed to be working hard, but HR was low.
Could not convince my feet to move faster, but then again, I didn't try too hard.

Cramped upon dismounting bike. Damn.
Cramped at the 1/2 mile mark. Double Damn. Luckily, I don't mind modifying my stride to avoid using muscle groups.
Achilles were not my biggest issues, thank goodness.
Ran the first 13.1 in about 2 hr 13 min; negative split the second half at about 2 hr.
At mile 16, realized I had 100 minutes to run 10 miles if I wanted to get a low 12 hour first Ironman. Rain had settled in lightly and the temps were dropping. Decided the cramps were minimal and I should ride the edge of comfort.
Developed ritual of drinking broth and/or pepsi every aid station.

Short climb after 6 miles. Then flat for 30-ish. Then a climb to Richter Pass. False flat and rollers until the climb to Yellow Lakes Pass. Finally, bombing down toward Penticton plus some flats through town.
Felt like I was bonking by mile 70, special needs bag pick up. Drank a baby coconut water for electrolytes. Ate fig newtons.
1207th out of approx 2200 overall
147th out of 194 in division
Lost 900 places :) That's okay, considering I hadn't biked for 5 weeks due to injuries for both achilles. It is what it is.
5 mn 37 sec transition 2.

Ironman Canada - 1 - SwimLined up in a thinly populated wedge, fairly near to the buoys.
People around me were saying they hoped to swim 1 hr 10 min, or so. Figured I wouldn't get overly pummeled.
Took a hit to the goggles within the first 15 minutes, but otherwise had my pick of open water or draft. Given the option, I draft.
Very surprised with the overall result.
299th out of approx. 2200 competitors overall
